List of Discord channels

This page lists all of the different channels in the Community Garden Radio Discord.

Background

The CGR Discord is broken down into various channels, which can be best thought of as areas where different kinds of conversation happen. A lot of the channels should be self-explanatory, but for the sake of completeness all are listed below, along with a brief description. There are currently 5 groups of channels: General Channels, Grow Your Own, Podcasts, Show Requests and Voice Channels.

As is often the case with conversations, discussions evolve over time and it's quite common for conversations to veer off onto different tangents, which is absolutely fine. That being said, there are a couple of channels with potentially sensitive or triggering content, which users are politely asked to keep all such content within. This allows users who might not want to see certain topics of conversation to avoid inadvertently stumbling upon content they may find distressing. These channels are marked with an asterisk below.

All channels are moderated by tuftii from the Fens, KathrynFromSouthShields, max and Scott From Devon.

General Channels

• announcements - Used by ProducerBen to broadcast messages to all CGR Discord users e.g. when a show is about to start.
• general - General channel for chatting about anything that isn't covered by any other channel. Frequently used outside of broadcast hours (community-garden-chatroom is used to listen along and chat whilst the show is broadcasting).
• books - Book reviews and recommendations.
• guitar-geeks - Place to chat about guitars, amps, pedals etc.
• cats-in-gangs - Cat-related pictures, memes and other things related to the 'Cats in gangs' cartwall clip.
• food* - Food-related chat, pictures of users culinary creations, recipe requests and so on. Gardeners are encouraged to keep all food-related chat to this channel, so as not to trigger any distressing feelings that may be caused by eating disorders or related conditions.
• middle-aged-moans - Area to rant about things that might mark one out as in the middle-age demographic (much older than Shaun's target demographic of course).
• music - Chat about all things music-related. New discoveries, old classics, recommendations - everything! Also hosts the regular sub-threads for the weekly Monday Night Album Club and Side Table events.
• new-tweets - A bot-curated (sid) channels that displays all tweets made by the Community Garden Radio Twitter account.
• onions - Onion-related pics and content. Inspired by the eponymous cartwall clip.
• on-the-box - Discussions about film, TV and cinema. Often spawns sub-threads if a show popular among gardeners is a recurring conversation point. Make sure you use spoiler tags!
• pew-pew-pew - Gaming-related chat. Also used by tuftii to notify when their live twitch streams are due to start.
• politicking* - Political discussion thread, which often leads to general despair about the incumbent UK government. This is another channel where it is requested that all political comments are kept, as it keeps all of the other channels much more light-hearted this way.
• self-promo - Where gardeners can promote any business, online content or other work that they are involved with.
• sport-and-that - Sport-related chat goes here. Similar to the music and on-the-box channels, this one often spawns sub-threads devoted to sporting events or tournaments that gardeners can chat whilst watching said events in real-time.
• suggestions - Suggestions for enhancing the Discord e.g. new channel requests, consolidations of existing channels etc.
• welcome - Another semi-automated channel which lists any new members of the Discord and welcomes them to the community. Feel free to manually post a hello of your own if you see a new face!
